Matt Thomas is highly regarded as a pioneer in the executive ranks of Australia’s $1 billion-a-year debt collection and purchasing sector. The former CEO of Brisbane-based Collection House Limited is credited as the driving force behind the National Hardship Register – a scheme to forgive the debts of disadvantaged Australians, which has streamlined standards of financial hardship management countrywide.
The Hardship Register was developed by Financial Counselling Australia and the Australian Collectors and Debt Buyers Association, where Matt is an Executive Director. Since 2012, he has served on the ACDBA Board in various capacities, including Deputy Chairman (2013-15) and Chairman (2015). As CEO of Collection House between 2010 and 2016, Matt delivered a 400% increase in the company’s total shareholder return – and a 100% increase in net profit after tax.
Matt has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales and is a graduate of the General Manager Program at UNSW Business School. He is a member of the CEO Institute and Mensa Australia, and a Graduate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
